Three OTT Trends Disrupting The Video Consumption Patterns OTT services essentially refer to TV shows and movies that are delivered directly to the users bypassing the cable and satellite means. OTT services today are enabling users to experience more personalized services on-demand like never before. According to a report by Allied Market Research, the global OTT market is projected to reach $332.52 billion mark by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 16.7 percent. “These days, viewers care less about the brands or channels they view, but they value more the quality of content. They are bored of traditional cable TV setups, which are expensive, and provide them stereotypical contents. Now, the trends are changing with the advent of OTT. The new-age OTT service providers like Netflix and Hotstar have started approaching viewers with unique and more personalized content. In my opinion, the trend will continue for the next few years,” said Mohammad Nissar, Director Technical at RGB Broadcasting.

With the availability of high-speed internet services and low-cost smart phones, audience are moving away from the traditional TV services to non-linear OTT services. In this scenario, let us have a look at some of the key OTT trends that are expected to significantly disrupt the video consumption patterns:

Vernacular Content To Target Wider Audience

OTT platforms targeting the vernacular base will prove to be instrumental in capturing the larger customer base, considering non-availability of vernacular content in the mainstream videos services. The best example for this is Zee5- the digital solution from Zee Entertainment which is available in 12 languages with over 76.4 million users worldwide.

Smart Streaming With AI

AI through recommendation engine helps service providers deliver more personalized content to users based on their preferences. Netflix has been making use of Artificial Intelligence to drive content recommendation for years now, enabling users to easily find relevant content.

Mobile Surpassing TV As Main Channel For Content Delivery

Today, mobile devices have become a better medium for content delivery overtaking the conventional television models. Also, mobile serve as a flexible means for people to watch videos while travelling, which is not possible with the conventional TVs.
